Before Ms. Sargent opened her private practice, she clerked at the Washington Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the Honorable Gerry Alexander.  She also interned for Justice Charles Johnson during her 1L year. Ms. Sargent spent several years as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Thurston County, where she was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Washington State Bar Association. After prosecuting scores of misdemeanor and felony cases, Ms. Sargent branched out into the civil arena.

Notable Cases

Ms. Sargent’s notable cases include William Wingate v. Cynthia Whitlatch et. al., a civil rights case in which Mr. Wingate successfully proved a Seattle Police Officer violated his 14th Amendment rights for arresting him for simply walking while black. In Keodalah v. Allstate Mutual Insurance Company, Mr. Keodalah proved that his insurance company was dishonest when it evaluated his claims. In Lock v. American Family, the Court of Appeals agreed with Ms.Lock and reversed the trial court’s JNOV of her substantial verdict and remanded for a new trial. In Henderson v. Thompson, the Washington Supreme Court directly reviewed the insertion of racial bias during the trial and determined that all litigants, not just criminal defendants are entitled to a trial free from racial bias. Ms. Thompson moved for certiorari which was denied by the United States Supreme Court.  Ms. Sargent represents every client with integrity and diligence no matter what challenges they face in the legal system.
